Shelving System Installation - Closet Shelving

Intro - Suspended - Closet -Recessed -Checklist

Aside from building your shelves from scratch, there are now many storage systems available, ready to assemble. I recommend you investigate these before beginning.

Attach 1 " x 4" ledger boards to the closet wall at the height and length you wish your shelf to be. These ledgers should be level and attached directly to the wall studs for maximum support. The shelf board will rest on the lip of the ledger.

When adding a clothes hanging pole, you will need plastic pole supports which screw into the wall at either end of the closet. If the pole is very long, add a supporting pole bracket in the middle, attached to the ledger.

Tip: The application of adhesive to the studs can be made even easier by adding a caulking gun attachment to your air compressor.
