Shopping for Decorative Drop Ceiling Tiles
There are a variety of drop ceiling tile choices available today. You can use drop ceiling tiles to create a traditional or modern look in your room.
Covering Old Tiles
You can use old drop ceiling tiles so long as they are still structurally sound. Stains and discoloration can be covered. There are a variety of styles and designs that you can use to cover the old tiles and save yourself some money in the process. Begin by cleaning the ceiling grids. Lay an old sheet or drop cloth on the floor to protect it. If possible move any furniture out of the room. If that is not possible, cover the furniture with sheets as well. Once the grids are completely clean, spray paint them in a color to coordinate with your new tiles. You can leave the tiles in place to catch any over spray. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area. Remove a few of the old tiles at a time. Apply a strong glue to the tiles. Place the new tiles on top of the old ones. Press down to secure the adhesive. Allow the glue to set for about fifteen minutes. If necessary, trim any extra material from the new tiles so that they will fit properly in the existing grid. Place the new tiles in into the drop ceiling.
Stamped Tin Tiles
There are a variety of stamped polystyrene ceiling tiles available that are designed to look like tin. The tiles can be painted in a metallic color to make them look copper or silver depending on your tastes.
Wood Tiles
Plank and panel wood ceiling tiles are available to fit into a drop ceiling grid. They can be trimmed to fit any grid size you have. These pre-finished tiles require little effort in installing and maintaining them. There are custom ceiling grids available for these wood tiles. The grid work appears handcrafted.
Snap Grid Covers
Existing ceiling grids can be easily updated with snap grid covers. They are available in limited color choices.
Modern Tiles
Highly polished ceiling tiles with reflective finishes are available for creating a modern look. These tiles fit easily into standard drop ceiling grids. Mirrored tiles can also be used. This application will also make the room appear much larger
