Should I seal my basement floor before installing carpet?
Before installing carpet in your basement, you need to seal the basement floor. If the floor has not had a sealer applied prior to installation, you can have a few issues. First, the moisture seeping through the concrete from the ground below, will cause the carpet to get damp, which will eventually cause your carpet and padding to rot. Next, this moisture being held in the carpet can cause serious mold issues in your home, which can be detrimental to your family's health, as well as quite expensive to remove. Mildew and bacteria growth are other concerns. These problems are alleviated when the floor is sealed.
