- China cabinets, knick-knack shelves and bookshelves should be attached to wall studs
- Avoid heavy hanging plants over a place where people sit, use light, unbreakable pots hung from ceiling studs
- Heavy objects should be moved to bottom shelves or secured
- Beds should be moved away from big windows
- Attach water heater to the wall studs
- Gas appliances with rigid feed line should be replaced with flexible connectors
- Outside chimney should be braced to the house
- House should be bolted to the foundation.
- Install clips, latches, or other locking devices on cabinet doors.
- Provide strong support and flexible connections on gas appliances.
- Brace overhead light fixtures.
- Hang heavy items such as pictures, clocks and mirrors away from beds and places where people sit.
- Repair any deep cracks in ceilings or foundations.
