Replace Circular Saw Blade

by DoItYourself Staff

When it's time to replace a circular saw blade, here's how you know you're doing it for the right reasons. Since it is difficult to determine when the blade is too dull to use by looking at the blade, you have to rely on the time and force it takes to get through the cut.

A good sharp blade should offer no resistance when you cut through your material, where a dull blade will make the cutting go slower and cause the motor to work harder. This is the first clue that your blade is dull or that you're over feeding the saw. If you can hear the saw change pitch, it's also a good sign that something is not quite right. The problem can be with the speed of feed, sharpness of blade, the kerfing or that your making too deep of a cut into a thinner material.
