Soil Preparation For Annual Seeds

Soil for annual seeds should be carefully prepared to ensure healthy, hearty growth.

Pick Seeds

First, pick the type of annual seeds you want to plant. Decide your planting location based on the plants' requirements for sun and soil.

Remove Grass and Weeds

Use a spading fork or tiller to prep the area for planting. Once you have loosened the soil, remove as much grass and as many weeds as you can.

Add Fertilizer

After you have turned the soil, add some type of fertilizer. This can be peat, compost, manure or any store-bought product. Make sure whichever you use suits your plants.

Check Soil

Before planting the seeds, check the soil for readiness. Soil should be moist but well drained and with a pH level of 6.0-7.4 for best results.

You are now ready to plant your annual seeds. Water as directed. Pinch off dead leaves and flowers to ensure further growth. Enjoy the beauty of your flowers.
