Solar Laterns for a Green Approach

by DoItYourself Staff

Solar lanterns are energy-efficient light fixtures used to provide light in remote areas where conventional electricity is not available. A typical solar lantern is comprised of solar panels, batteries and an energy efficient light bulb, such as LED. Here’s how you can go green by using solar lanterns.

Save Energy, Save the Planet

With the ever increasing energy demands, using solar lanterns is becoming the preferred method in lighting streets, parking lots, parks and gardens. A solar lantern does not require external electricity to run. Instead, it uses solar energy stored in batteries. A solar lantern exposed to direct sunlight for 8 hours can provide up to 15 hours of light during nighttime. This means that a lot of energy can be save in the use of solar lanterns.

Zero Emission Lighting System

There is no pollutants in using a solar lantern since it does not use fossil fuel, nuclear energy, hydro-electric energy or coal to provide power for the light bulb. Solar energy is a renewable and endless source of energy that is cheap, clean and available. There is also zero residual pollution in using solar lanterns since it does not require fuel to be transported from somewhere else.
