With a solar-powered pond fountain, you can add a great water feature to your pond as well as conserve on energy costs. Once you have decided to install a solar powered fountain, follow the steps below and you'll have your fountain functional in no time.
Step One – Decide Whether to Buy a Kit
You can buy a ready-made kit for a solar fountain which has all of the components you need in one place. You won't have to make any extra effort in buying multiple parts or accessories. These kits contain small solar collectors either separate from the fountain or built into the fountain design itself. If they are built in, these fountains must be in direct sunlight to work properly.
If you decide to do it yourself rather than buy a kit, then the installation will require some previous wiring expertise. You’ll need to buy the components separately and put the solar collector, pump, and fountain head together.
Step Two – Install the Panels, if Necessary
If you have a separate solar panel, it should be placed facing south in order to get greatest amount of light throughout the day.
Step Three – Connect the Pump
Follow the directions on the pump packaging to connect the pump to the solar panel. Immerse the pump in the water, allow the solar panels to charge, then test the pump to ensure it's functional.
Step Four – Place the Pump
Once you are sure the pump is functioning properly, you can then place it in the most appropriate place within the pond. Be sure to double check that all of the components of the fountain are working properly and fix any necessary problems.
