Stone Vessel Sinks: Cleaning and Maintenance
If you are lucky enough to have a stone vessel sink, you will want to keep it looking great with regular cleaning and maintenance. Each different type of stone material such as granite, marble, quartz and limestone will respond to the cleaning and maintaining basics if done properly and on a regular basis.
Keep it Clean
One of the tricks to keep your stone sink like new is to not allow it to become overly dirty or stained. This is especially true if you live in a hard water area where build up occurs. Clean your sink often with a soft cloth or sponge and a a gentle cleaner such as dish washing soap. If you get a stain, use something like a liquid scrubbing cleaner like Soft Scrub or a mixture of baking soda and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as scouring powders, steel wool pads, toilet bowl cleaner, vinegar, ammonia or lemon juice.
Keep it Dry
Keep your sink dry and wipe it out after each use. This is especially true for porous stones such as limestone. It will also prevent water marks and spots on the shiney surfaces of granite, marble and quartz.
Seal and Polish
If you have a sink made of a shiny stone you should seal it and polish it with a cleaner and polish available at your local hardware or home improvement store. The action of polishing will seal the stone and make it shiny and it will resist stains and spots.
