Subsurface water can pose a huge problem to your basement and crawlspaces if it’s not planned for properly. There are many causes of subsurface water around the base of your home.
• If the ground is sloped towards the house, all of the subsurface water will naturally run towards the house.
• A house that doesn’t have rain gutters can allow for all the rain that would come off the roof to end up at the base of the house. Also, if you have gutters that are clogged or that have holes in them, they can pose a problem as well.
• Downspouts that empty too close to the house are a common cause of flooding as well since the water will become subsurface water very quickly.
How to Prevent Subsurface Water From Entering Your Home
You can’t exactly stop subsurface water from occurring, but you can stop it from entering your house. If you make sure that all of the above common causes are taken care of than you shouldn’t have a problem with the subsurface water entering your house as it will be kept as far away from the base of your house as possible.
