A typical 10-in. power miter saw can crosscut a board up to about 5 1/2 in. wide. Great - but what if you need to cut 6-in.-wide baseboard or 6 1/2-in. crown molding?

Widen the cutting capacity of the saw by about 1 in. simply by putting a 2x6 board beneath the workpiece. That raises the piece so the widest part of the blade can cut it. For safety, securely clamp the piece and board to the saw table.
