Preemptive Termite Pest Control Methods

by DoItYourself Staff

Termite pest control can be a big headache. This is especially true since there are different types of termites that exist. Fortunately there are some preemptive measures that can be taken before termite pest control actions need to be taken.

• Apply termiticide such as Permethrin, Cyper TC, or Dominion 2L to the foundational walls or piers.
• You don’t need to dig any deeper then the top of the footing.
• When applying the termicide it may be easier to pour it with a watering can or bucket than a sprayer.
• The rate should be about 4 gallons for every 10 linear feet you cover.

Post Construction Termite Pest Control

Although there are some things you can do to prevent termites, if you happen to start seeing them you may want to call a termite pest control service.

• Thorough inspection of the building to locate where they may attack.
• Basement construction could require treatment injected through holes drilled in the floor.
• Crawl space treatment involves trenching along the walls and applying termitcides to the soil.

Termite pest control can be tricky; if you notice different types of termites your home could require multiple treatments of different types to rid your house of them.
