Tips for Applying Glass Safety Film

by DoItYourself Staff

When you have children or are simply concerned because you have a significant amount of glass in your home, fitting glass safety film can be a good solution. Following some tips for the application process will help you to ensure fitting is effective.

Prepare Surface

Whether you are applying glass safety film to the windows or to a table top, it is necessary to prepare the surface by cleaning it. This will ensure that the glass is free from dirt and dust that can prevent the film from sticking properly. Avoid using any harsh chemicals to clean with and rinse and dry the surface thoroughly afterward.

Measure

Double check your measurements to ensure that the sheet of glass safety film fits correctly without leaving any gaps. If in doubt, cut the film larger than the surface area and use a craft or utility knife to carefully cut around the film so that it directly abuts the edge of the glass.

Smooth

It is essential that the glass safety film is applied properly for it to be effective so you must properly peruse the instructions before beginning any work. Use a straightedge to help you smooth the film to the surface and ensure that no air bubbles are left below the film.
