Tips for Painting Suspended Ceilings

by DoItYourself Staff

Altering the look of a room can be undertaken in a number of different ways, including painting suspended ceilings. By implementing some tips during the process of applying paint, you can ensure that the project is carried out correctly.

Protection

You will find that there are some aspects of suspended ceilings that need to be protected prior to the application of paint. This may be fasteners, joins or the edges where the ceiling meets the wall, which will ensure that no paint makes contact with these surfaces.

Prepare

Be aware that the color of the paint applied to suspended ceilings can be distorted if the surface isn’t properly prepared. Where the ceiling is affected by moisture, mold or nicotine stains, you will find it necessary to treat it first to ensure that the color is even and you get the desired result.

Application

When painting suspended ceilings, it is important not to take any action that will dislodged the ceiling. On this basis, using a spray gun to apply the paint when the ceiling is in situ is a good method to use to ensure that movement doesn’t occur. Alternatively, if the ceiling is in the form of tiles, you can take them down to paint them before returning them to their place.
