  • Unique look- When you look at travertine, you will immediately notice the pieces are unique. This creates a very interesting and one of a kind look that a many people enjoy.

Cons

  • Etching- One disadvantage of using travertine on the bathroom countertop is that it is subject to etching. Etching is a phenomenon that can occur when any acidic substance gets on the tile. If you accidentally spill anything acidic on the counter, you could be left with a permanent etching.
  • Porous- Travertine is one of the most porous natural stones that is used for countertops. You will have to thoroughly seal the travertine in order to prevent liquid from being absorbed. If you do not, it could potentially soak up anything that you spill on it. This can lead to problems cleaning the surface as well.
