Troubleshooting a Faulty Dishwasher Hookup

A faulty dishwasher hookup can cause the dishwasher to work improperly. The faulty hookup can be the result of a new installation of the dishwasher or inattention to the details associated with connecting the dishwasher. The faulty connection of the dishwasher may also be the result of faulty hoses and connectors.

In order to troubleshoot the faulty dishwasher hookup, here are the steps and process needed to accomplish this task. These steps are basic in identify the probable source of trouble with your dishwasher hookup and determining where the problem may lie. 

Step 1: Run the Dishwasher

Turn the dishwasher on in order to listen for any problems that are associated with its operation. You want to listen to how the dishwasher is operating and sounds in order to determine if the source of the problem is in the hookup of the dishwasher.

If the dishwasher sounds like it is making a gurgling noise or not operating properly, it should be shut down immediately. The dishwasher needs to be disconnected in order to determine the source of the problem.

Step 2: Disconnect the Dishwasher Hose

Pull the dishwasher away from the wall in order to gain access to the back of the dishwasher. The outlet cord should be taken out and the hoses that connect the dishwasher to its water source needs to be removed. Use a vice wrench or pliers to disconnect the hoses. Hold the hose up when you disconnect it from the dishwasher to make sure that no water spills out.

Step 3: Check the Dishwasher Hose

Examine the dishwasher hose to determine if it is kinked or if there is any other problem with the dishwasher hose. This may be the source of your problem involving the dishwasher hookup. If there is any defect or problem with the dishwasher hose, change it out with a new dishwasher hose in order to solve this problem with your dishwasher. Connect a replacement hose to the dishwasher in place of the old dishwasher in order to eliminate this problem.

Step 4: Reconnect the Dishwasher Hose

Take the pliers or vice wrench and reconnect the hoses to the back of the dishwasher. Make sure that the connection is tight and secure and reconnect the outlet cord to the outlet. Push the dishwasher into place and turn the dishwasher on. The noise that you heard previously should have disappeared.

Step 5: Call a Repair Technician

If the noises in your dishwasher persists and you cannot identify the source of the problem from the hookup, you need to contact a qualified repair technician. The technician can use a different set of diagnostic tools to locate and identify the problem with the dishwasher and make the necessary repairs. This may be the last but necessary step in the process in troubleshooting and fixing the problem with a faulty dishwasher hookup.
