Troubleshooting Your DVD Player Recorder
A DVD player recorder is a wonderful item to have in your home. Not only can you play DVDs but you can also record onto DVD recordable discs. That means you can increase your DVD library cheaply. However, as with any appliance, a DVD player recorder can develop problems. Knowing how to troubleshoot problems with a DVD player recorder can save you a great deal of money.
Can’t Switch On
Where the DVD player recorder won’t switch on with the remote control or the power button, first check that the unit is properly plugged in and that the outlet works. If both of those are fine you need to see if the unit is in external link mode. Either EXT or EXT LINK will be displayed on the screen. To solve this, simply go out of external link mode by pressing the EXTERNAL LINK button located on the remote control.
Standby
If the unit switches to standby mode it’s an indicator that one of the safety mechanisms on the DVD player recorder has been activated. Try pressing the power button to switch the unit on fully. If this doesn’t work you’ll need to take the unit to a professional.
Powers Off Automatically
Where the DVD player recorder is connected to the television by an HDMI cable and the TV is HDAVI control compatible, then the DVD player recorder will automatically go into standby mode when the television is turned off. If this is a problem for you, go into the setup menu and disable to HDAVI control.
Dim Display
There are two settings for the display, bright and dim. To alter the brightness of the display, go into the setup menu and change FL DISPLAY.
Different Time Displays On Disc
If the amount recorded and the amount of time still available on the disc don’t add up, don’t worry. The amount of available time shown on the DVD-RW disc will only change when the last item is removed. Taking out other items won’t change the display. It’s absolutely normal. Any time shown will depend on the compression of the recorded program and the content of the program.
Remote Control
When the remote control won’t operate the DVD player recorder, check the batteries. Try replacing them and see if the remote works. If the batteries are fine, the code on the remote and the code on the DVD player recorder might not be the same. When aiming the remote at the unit a number will be displayed. To set the remote to the same number, which will be 1, 2, or 3, press down OK on the remote as the appropriate number at the same time.
Won’t Eject Disc
If the DVD player recorder won’t eject a disc, it’s probably because the unit is recording. To remove the disc, stop the recording manually then eject. You can also press EXY LINK to stop the recording and remove the disc.
U88
Where U88 is displayed on the screen, the DVD player recorder is in recovery mode, possibly from a power failure. Use the unit’s power button to switch it to standby. If it won’t do this, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force into standby. In standby, press down on STOP and CHANNEL Up buttons together for five seconds and remove the disc.
