TV Repair Troubleshooting
Before you call a TV technician spend a little time doing some TV repair troubleshooting. There are a number of common issues that can actually be fixed by you. If you follow the steps below, you may find that you don’t have to call any one out after all.
Your TV Won’t Turn On
If your TV won’t turn on, you should check the power cord. Make sure that it is securely in the wall plug. Sometimes the power cord has burned out and needs to be replaced. You may also want to check the batteries in the remote to make sure that they are working properly.
Your TV Turns Off Unexpectedly
If your TV is turning off unexpectedly it is usually because it is overheating. You should remove all items from on top of the television and keep the ventilation stacks clear. You can also clean the ventilation stacks with a small vacuum cleaner attachment. You should also make sure that the sleep timer has not been turned on. This can also cause the TV to turn off unexpectedly.
You are Experiencing Picture Problems
If you are having trouble getting a clear picture on your TV you should check the input source. You can do this on your television’s remote. You should also check the picture menu on your TV. This will allow you to adjust the color, tint, and brightness. If your TV screen has become magnetized you can purchase a large metal coil from your local hardware store and demagnetize the screen.
Your are Having Sound Issues
If you are experiencing poor sound, you can set the TV to mono sound. This should correct any problems that you are having. If there is no sound at all, set the TV to stereo sound. Make sure that the TV is not muted. You can check this from the remote control. Also, make sure that the coaxial cable is securely in place. A faulty coaxial cable can cause the sound to go in and out.
You can View Only a Few Channels
If you subscribe to a cable service but aren’t able to get many channels, you should make sure that the cable cord is secure. It should run from the TV to the cable box or modem. If the cable is not securely in place you may not be able to access the cable service. You can check the cable by placing it on a different television. Often times, replacing the cable will solve this problem. If the cable isn’t the problem, you should check to make sure that you have set the TV to the correct function. Most times the TV should be set to the TV/Cable setting. Use your remote to make these changes.
There ss a Black Box on Your Television Screen
If there is a black box on your TV screen, you have probably inadvertently turned on closed captioning. Use your remote to turn off the setting and the black box should disappear.
That’s it. If you troubleshoot your TV you should be able to avoid calling a technician.
