Twitter Tips: How to Person-To-Person Tweet

by DoItYourself Staff

Twitter is not only a place to post updates: you can also send custom messages to specific Twitter users. Nobody who follows your Twitter account will see this message except the user you sent it to. Keep reading this article for basic instructions on how to send a personal message to someone on Twitter.

A Simple Addition

Sending a “Tweet” to a specific user on Twitter is quite simple. Basically, you will be creating a regular Twitter message as though you were simply creating an update, but with a slight addition. Just like a normal update, type your message into the text box on your Twitter home page. However, at the very beginning of your message, type the Twitter username of the person you want the message sent to. With no space, add an “@” symbol to the end of that username. Add a space after the “@” symbol and compose your message. For example, if you are sending a message to a friend whose username is “Jones123,” you would start the message with “Jones123@” with a space after it. From there, simply type out your message under 140 characters and push update. The posting will not update on your home page or Twitter feeds, but will only send to that user.
