Types of Sprinkler Heads

by DoItYourself Staff

The sprinkler heads that you choose for keeping your lawn lush, will make a huge impact on the overall health of your lawn. There are several different types of sprinkler heads.

Pop Up Spray Sprinkler Heads
Pop Up sprinkler heads are the most common among residential homes. These sprinklers come in several different sizes and are easy to install. These sprinkler heads come in sizes ranging from 2 inches to 20 inches and are designed to pop up to deliver a continuous stream of water. Depending on the hardness of the turf, or how quickly the lawn grows, you will want to choose a size accordingly.

Gear Driven Rotors

If you have a large yard, a gear driven rotor sprinkler head can be very effective in delivering water over a wide range of coverage. These quiet rotor sprinkler heads can cover anywhere from 15' to 55' of ground with 360 degree coverage.

Large Turf Rotors

Typically for large areas such as golf clubs, parks, and commercial areas, a large turf rotor can deliver a lot of water over a wide range of area. They can deliver up to 80 gallons of water to 100 feet of ground in a short period of time.

Locating the right sprinkler heads that are right for your lawn will determine whether or not your sprinkler system will be a success.
