Using a Coffeemaker to Brew Tea
An electric coffeemaker or coffeepot can be used for more than just making coffee. In fact, many of today's coffeemakers are being used to brew tea. Reports state that there are almost as many tea drinkers out there as there are coffee lovers. But rather than buying a separate appliance to brew your tea, use your coffeemaker to do the job.
Electric coffeemakers that brew coffee use the same concept to brew tea, and they can make a pretty good cup, too. Here are 10 easy steps to help you get that perfectly brewed cup of tea.
Step #1:Fill the carafe with water.
Step #2: Plug in the unit, but do not turn it on yet.
Step #3: Place loose tea, tea bags or leaves in the same coffee filter that you use for coffee, whether it is a paper filter or the basket that came with the appliance. Be sure that neither form of filter has tears or holes, which could cause loose tea/leaves from getting into the water without going through the brewing stage. Use one bag of tea or one tablespoon of loose tea for up to one cup of tea.
Step #4: Turn on the unit.
Step #5: Watch as the water dispels through the unit, through the filter and into the carafe.
Step #6: Be sure to let the water finish running through the unit before removing the carafe from the burner.
Step #7: Remove the carafe and pour the tea into your favorite mug. Add milk, cream, sugar, etc.
Step #8: Wait until the unit cools before emptying the tea grounds, bags and the filter from the unit.
Step #9: Turn off the unit.
Step #10: Enjoy your freshly brewed cup of tea.
It is important to wash out the carafe after use and to never leave the carafe with the tea on the burner for more than 20 minutes. Not only can it be dangerous, but leaving tea on the burner for any longer than that tends to make it go bitter.
Tea lovers are as loyal as coffee drinkers and take their tea seriously. Regardless of your preference, brewing tea in your electric coffeepot or coffeemaker can not only save time and money, but since you already know how to use the appliance it will be a breeze.
