Follow these simple steps to install your new vanity fixture without any fuss.
Choosing New Fixtures
When selecting your new vanity fixture, measure to ensure that you have enough space without bumping in to the walls on the side or anything else. Also note the placement of the electrical boxes.
Power Supply
Make sure you’ve turned off any power supplying the current fixture. Once it’s turned off, you can remove the old fixture.
Inspection
Inspect all of the components behind the fixture before installing the new one. In older homes, you may find the fixture was placed directly on the electrical box. Most states now require that a mounting strap be placed on the box. Most newer vanity fixtures will have this included.
Wiring and Grounding
Now that you’ve inspected everything—and attached the mounting strap, if needed—you can start to wire the new fixture, following the directions that came with it. You’ll also want to make sure the new light is properly grounded to avoid any sparks or shocks later. Most of the time, the grounding wire is attached to the mounting strap.
Mount New Fixture
Now you’re ready to mount your new fixture to the box. Again, follow the manufacturer's instructions for this. Unless you’ve picked a complicated light fixture, this should be able to be done in just a matter of minutes.
