Vinyl Flooring Installation: What Is a Floating Floor?

by DoItYourself Staff

If you are doing vinyl flooring installation, you could install the vinyl as a floating floor. A floating floor is one that is not actually attached to the substrate beneath it. There are a few different types of vinyl that can be installed in this manner. Vinyl planks are commonly installed as a floating floor because some of them can attach to one another instead of needing to be attached to the floor. If you have some of the thicker sheet vinyl, you can also install it as a floating floor because it is heavy enough to stay on the floor and it will not curl up on the edges.
