When it comes to tackling a big project like designing or redesigning a landscape, the hardest step is often the first one. Simply getting started can be quite a challenge, and it is a good idea to lay the whole thing out in advance in order to derive the maximum possible benefit from your landscaping dreams.

It can be very difficult to know where to start when designing a new landscape, or fixing problems with an existing one. At first blush, the job can seem overwhelming, but often a step by step approach can reduce your feelings of being overwhelmed.

For instance, instead of tackling the entire landscape at once, focus first on those parts of the landscape that are most in need of attention. If the front walkway needs lots of help, why not start with plans to perk it up? After that walkway is looking fabulous, you can then move on to the next, more challenging, part of designing the new landscape. Taking things a step at a time can help you get the landscape you've always wanted without undue hassle and stress.

Starting with a walkway can be a good way to create a new exterior landscape. These features of the landscape are practical and functional as well as beautiful, and the creation of a brand new walkway, or the restoration of a neglected one, can give you the sense of accomplishment you need to go forward with confidence.

If your home has an existing walkway, you can start by taking a hard look at it and determining what could be done to improve it. From the addition of new paving stones to planting a line of flowers, there are many things that can be done to perk up a tired walkway. Take a look at other walkways at the homes of friends and neighbors, but be careful not to copy them exactly. Instead, use these walkways as a guideline to create your own masterpiece, a walkway that reflects your own unique taste and style.

One of the most important considerations when designing a new walkway is whether to make the walkway straight or winding. While a straight walkway may be more practical, a winding pathway can be more attractive, and more visually interesting.  It is important to consider a number of factors, including the space you have available and the look you are trying to achieve, when making this important decision.

After you have designed the perfect walkway, all you need do is gather the necessary materials and supplies and get started. Staking out the area for the walkway ahead of time, using ropes and garden stakes, is a good way to guide you as you go forward. Creating a stunning walkway or path is well within the skills of virtually any homeowner, and seeing your finished pathway will give you the confidence it takes to tackle the rest of your landscaping project.
