Wall And Ceiling Speakers: Wiring Instructions
If you’ve decided to place wall and ceiling speakers in your home or patio, you’ll need to know how to wire them. Wall and ceiling speakers that are properly wired can make any gathering of friends or family into an incredible experience.
Pick Your Spot
Before you do anything you need to pick a spot for your speakers. You can put them in the ceiling or the wall. Choosing a location before you do anything else makes running the wires from speaker to receiver easier. Naturally, you’ll need to make sure that the wires can reach the spot you’ve picked, and there is plenty of clearance for the speaker.
What to Do With The Holes
Once you’ve made your holes, you will run the speaker cable. Add a little installation around the wiring to keep the quality of the sound. Some people like to use electrical tape, or a staple gun to moor the wiring so it doesn’t shift while you are working with it. Make sure to leave enough wiring outside the wall to reach the speaker.
Wiring To The Speaker
If you have your speaker already mounted in the ceiling bracket you can start wiring. Wires are colored coded to make the installation easier. All you need to do is to attach the red wire to the red wire, etc. Strip the wire at its end, with a wiring stripping tool and fasten it to the jacks of the speaker. Now you can test the sound quality of the speaker. This way you’ll know if it’s working correctly before you put any more work into the project that you’ll have to undo if there’s a problem.
The Setting The Sound Controls
The area you installed the speaker will affect how the speaker sounds. If you put the speaker near the corner of the wall, then you’ll want to set the bass lower. If you have a lot of fabrics in your room, like carpeting or upholstered furniture, you need to set the treble to the minus also.
Cover The Holes
You’ll need to cover up the holes you drilled into the walls for aesthetic reasons. Wash the areas around the holes with a damp rag and let them dry. All you need now is a little a Spackle, a plaster knife and some sand paper. You’ll need to apply the Spackle liberally to the hole to completely shore it up, and it make take several applications. Once all the layers have dried, use your sanding paper to even it out. Then you can paint it to match the rest of the wall.
While it might seem like a big project, breaking it down into steps keeps it simple and fun. Not only that you will now have a permanent home theater system for television watching or listening to music.
