Wallcovering Adhesive

Wallcovering adhesive is used to prepare a wall to hold paper and other types of covering.  Generally found in liquid or paste form, wallcovering adhesive does come in several different varieties.

Wallcovering adhesive types

There are a number of different wallcovering adhesive types. They include:

  • Pre-pasted activators – This type of wallcovering adhesive is meant for use with wall coverings that come with adhesives already in place. Do-it-yourself wall paper rolls, for example, often are self-adhering. The activators simply make this style of paper easier to hang and more durable over time.
  • Clear – Wallcovering adhesive products of this type have a clear appearance and do not dry quite as fast as other options. They are also much easier to clean up after using.
  • Clay – This type of wallcovering adhesive is thicker and messier than the clear variety. It is generally used by professional hangers or painters.
  • Vinyl – This type of wallcovering adhesive is used to apply vinyl to a wall. This type of adhesive is considered permanent once it dries.

Considerations when using wallcovering adhesive

Before selecting or using wallcovering adhesive, make sure to study the material involved for hanging. Vinyl, for example, will require a different type of adhesive than paper or fabric.
