Washing Machine Drain Pump Replacement

A washing machine drain pump facilitates the washer to dispose the water after its usage. If you have been noticing water in your machine even after the cycle time has elapsed, then you will have to replace the drain pump. Water does not get pumped out of the machine when the drain pump is damaged. Read on to find out the quickest and easiest way to replace a washing machine drain pump.

Step 1 – Turn Off the Power Supply

Before you start replacing the washing machine drain pump cut the electric supply to the machine. Pull the electric chord of your machine from the socket to do so.

Step 2 – Shut Off the Water Supply

The next step in the washing machine drain pump replacement is to turn off the water supply. Locate the spot where the water line comes into your house. Turn the handle or lever and stop the flow of water.

Step 3 – Open the Access Panel

The access panel is located on the bottom of the washing machine. The panel is supported and kept in place by screws. With the help of a screwdriver take the screw off. The access panel will break free.

Step 3 – The Drain Pump

After taking off the access panel you will be able to spot a drain pump. Two drain pipes are connected to the drain pump

Step 4 – The Waste Water

Open the pump and dispose the accumulated water in a bucket.

Step 5 – Spillage

In case water spills during this process, be quick to react. Wipe the water from the machine and let it dry.

Step 6 – Ready

After the pump has been drained it is not time to remove the washing machine drain pump.

Step 7 – Removing the Washing Machine Drain Pump

Carefully pull out the connected pipes from the pump. Open the pump's front by taking off the screws. The wiring inside the pump will now be visible.

Step 8 – Disconnecting the Wire

Disconnecting the wires is not difficult, when you pull, it will snap free. But make sure you observe the way the wires have been connected as it will come handy later.

Step 9 – Remove the Washing Machine Drain Pump

With a screwdriver remove the screws that attach the pump to the machine. Gently remove the drain pump out of the machine

Step 10 – The New Drain Pump

Place the new drain pump in the slot. Make sure it sits securely by placing and tightening the screws.

Step 11 – Connecting the Wires and Parts

Reconnect the wires that you had released in step 8. Also place the access panel back. Turn on the water and electric supply to the machine

Step 12 – Test

Operate the machine to find out if the washing machine drain pump has been installed accurately.
