Water Extraction Equipment

by DoItYourself Staff

Getting rid of water from a home can be an expensive and time consuming process, but using water extraction equipment can help to remove most of the worst damage from the home. Water extraction equipment comes in a variety of forms, from simple mops and buckets to large machines that need a driver. The type of water extraction equipment that will work best for you depends on the type of home you have, and the type of water damage you have sustained.

Carpeted Areas

Water is a pain in the neck to remove from carpets and furniture. Many experts will advise you to throw the whole mess away and collect the insurance, but if you are reluctant to do this, there are alternatives. Home cleaning firms will have a large machine, somewhat like a vacuum, which will draw the water up into the tubes, and leave the carpet dry. This is not a long-term solution, but it can help carpets and fabrics to dry more quickly.

Wood Floors

Wood flooring is another difficult area to dry out. Water can easily slip between the pores of a wooden area, and this can cause a great deal of trouble during humid periods. Try drying out with a fan, or using a hair-dryer on a low or cool heat setting.
