Water Testing: Is Your Water Clean?

Periodic water testing is an important process that helps homeowners determine if their water is healthy and free of any contaminants. A major cause of health problems in the U.S. is because people are drinking unhealthy water in their homes without knowing it.

Check Water Every Four Years
People who are receiving their water from municipal water treatment plants do not have to be concerned with their water as people who have wells or other means of water. Water can become contaminated over time and should be tested every four years or so. Agricultural practices, manufacturing plants, and even environmental issues can cause water to be contaminated after a period time.

Test It Yourself
There are several water testing kits available on the market today that are quite reasonable. The downside to this is that no one kit will test for every contaminant. Check the packages to see what it detects. Lead is the most dangerous chemical in water, but mineral deposits and radon can also be harmful.

Federal Testing
In some cases the local health department can either have your water tested or request you to send a sample. If you don't feel comfortable water testing yourself and want to make sure that you receive the best results, you can contact an independent testing facility or health department.
