What causes a sprinkler head to leak?

by DoItYourself Staff

If you've spotted a leaky sprinkler head in your lawn, you must know why it is leaking before you can fix it. Consider the 3 following possible reasons your sprinkler head might be leaking.

Low Drainage

Water draining from your sprinkler after the system shuts off may be draining from a sprinkler head that is positioned at the lower part of your system.

Control Valve

If more than one sprinkler head continues leaking, even when your sprinkling system has not been turned on, the leak may be caused by a leaking control valve.

Clogged Sprinkler Head

A clog in the head could cause leaking. Inspect and clear away any debris, grass or mud.
