What causes my wood veneer furniture to appear warped?

by DoItYourself Staff

You may find wood veneer furniture when you are looking through antique stores and used furniture stores. This type of finish was very popular in the early to mid 1900s. A thin layer of a desirable or expensive wood is glued over a thick base or a cheaper but more sturdy wood. If the veneer comes into contact with a lot of humidity or wetness, it will buckle or warp. When it dries out, it generally stays warped and can't be repaired except possibly by an expert furniture restorationist.
