What Cleans Copper Without Affecting the Metal Itself?

by DoItYourself Staff

When trying to find what cleans copper effectively, you will need to look no further than your kitchen. To remove the discoloration from your copper, use regular tomato ketchup and a soft cloth. Rub the ketchup on in a circular motion. For stubborn areas, add salt to the ketchup and rub those spots. Rinse the copper well, and dry immediately. If the insides of a copper pan or other copper container are stained or tarnished, cover the inside of the pan with vinegar and salt, and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. All of the residue will wipe off with little scrubbing necessary. Using these methods will not remove the top layer of the copper, thereby not causing it to thin.
