Dig out the circle, going 12 inches deep, and pour a layer of gravel for rain drainage. Next, add a layer of sand to cover the gravel and even out the surface. Lay down your first circle of stone around the perimeter. Apply a layer of mortar to those stones, and add the next layer. Repeat until it is the height you desire.
