What Do I Need to Make a Stone Inground Fire Pit?

by DoItYourself Staff

Building a stone inground fire pit is fun and easy. You will first need to choose the area, away from your home and trees. Use paint or powdered chalk to mark the circle where you will build. Dig out the circle, going 12 inches deep, and pour a layer of gravel for rain drainage. Next, add a layer of sand to cover the gravel and even out the surface. Lay down your first circle of stone around the perimeter. Apply a layer of mortar to those stones, and add the next layer. Repeat until it is the height you desire. Add a grate, and you are ready to use your inground fire pit.
