What is a ridge vent?

by DoItYourself Staff

A ridge vent is a type of vent that is installed on shingled roofs to help the warm air from the inside to escape from or exit a building. Ridge vents run the entire length of the building and keep it from heating up, therefore protecting your home from moisture, heat and humidity. Ridge vents work on the basis of a few fundamental principles and as part of a proper system. Roof ridge vents are generally paired with sheathing and soffits to ensure a smooth and continuous airflow that keeps your home cool and dry.
