What is acrylic latex paint?

Acrylic latex paint is one of two different main types of paint. The other paint type is alkyd (oil-based) paint. Acrylic latex paint, commonly referred to as latex paint, is comprised of two basic ingredients: water and a resin binder.

There are other water-based paints available on the market, but acrylic latex is usually more highly rated for quality by paint users than other types of water-based paints.

Advantages of acrylic latex paint over oil-based paints include the simplicity of cleaning paintbrushes and rollers, sprayers, pans, and other tools. Acrylic latex paint is also valued for its flexibility, opacity, adhesion and color retention.
