What is the best way to finish a cabinet glaze?

by DoItYourself Staff

A popular trend in home décor today is applying a cabinet glaze to kitchen cabinets. This may be applied alone or it may be applied over paint or stain. The glaze is applied and then wiped away, leaving a small amount of glaze in the wood grain and in cracks and crevices. This gives an aged or antiqued appearance to the cabinetry. Glazes are available in any color. They are usually tinted in a contrasting color to that of the actual cabinet. After the glaze is applied and wiped away it must dry completely. Then a double coat of polyurethane can be applied to the cabinet, which finishes and protects the glazed surface.
