What is the best way to paint a wrought iron fireplace screen?

by DoItYourself Staff

It is easy to paint your own wrought iron fireplace screen. To begin, use a wire brush to remove any old paint from the screen, essentially exfoliating the wrought iron. Then clean the iron with a damp cloth as this will get rid of any loose bits caused by the wire brush and any dirt. Next, prime the wrought iron with a metal primer that is resistant to heat. Finally, acquire a heat-resistant spray paint suitable for use on metal. Take the fireplace screen outside to spray it. Allow it to dry in a well-ventilated area for about 24 hours.
