What Is the R-Factor of Foam Core Panels?

by DoItYourself Staff

The R-factor is a value that is assigned to insulation materials in order to show how effective they are. The R-value of foam core panels can be anywhere from R-4 to R-8 per inch of material. This is a very good R-factor compared to most other types of insulation, up to 2 times better than what you can find with traditional insulation. Foam core panel insutlation is generally more expensive than other types of insulation since it is much more effective. However, the money will generally be made up for with lower utility costs.
