What to do When Your Textured Ceiling Starts to Flake
what you'll need
- A stiff brush
- Texture spray patch
- A vacuum
- A paint roller
- Paint
- A paintbrush
A textured ceiling that begins to flake, can seem to be a difficult problem to repair, because scraping the flakes off of the surface can also damage the texture. You can simply and easily fix the problem, with the right tools and materials.
Step 1 – Removing the Flakes
Use your brush to scrub off the flaking paint. Move the brush in circular motions to loosen the flakes. Some of the other texture may come off, but be careful not to apply too much force and take off more texture than necessary.
Step 2 – Repairing the Ceiling
Use the textured ceiling patch spray to cover the damaged area. This patch spray is available at most hardware and home improvement stores. Read the instructions provided by the patch manufacturer before you begin. Allow the patch spray enough time to dry completely.
Step 3 – Painting the Ceiling
Use your vacuum to remove any loose texture or paint from the area. Use your paint brush to cut in the ceiling paint. Apply your paint to the roller pad. Use the paint roller to paint the entire ceiling. You will need a roller brush that is at least 1/2 inch thick.
