What to Include in a Car Earthquake Survival Kit

by DoItYourself Staff

An earthquake occurs when the tectonic plates along a fault line collide or crash into each other. The size of an earthquake is measured on the Richter scale and if an earthquake happens below sea level it could result in a tsunami.

Being Prepared

In the event of an earthquake you should be as fully prepared as possible. Although you may already have an earthquake emergency kit at home, it is essential that there is one in the car as well.

What to include

A car earthquake survival kit is a scaled down version of the home kit. There are some essential items which need to be included in the car kit. An earthquake car kit should include a first aid kit, emergency food, water, a flash light, cell phone and if possible, warm clothing, a radio, blankets and a small tent for shelter. A car survival kit should be able to fit into a nylon back pack so if you have to leave your car, you can find safety on foot. If possible try to ensure that the kit contains emergency supplies that will last a couple of days.

Check contents on a regular to ensure that batteries are still operational and food items are in date.
