What to Know About a Basement Remodel Cost

Your basement remodel cost will be dependent on the size of your basement and the particular items you would like to have in the room. If you are contemplating remodeling your basement, read the information below as to how the remodel should be conducted, what items you'll need, and how it all ties into the cost of your remodeling project.

Step 1- Framing

Framing the basement is the first stage of the remodel. You will need to purchase wood or steel studs, nails, and a number of tools, including a wood saw, hammer, and drill. This will be one of larger expenses as you will need to buy several pieces of wood or steel in addition to tools if you do not already have them.

Step 2- Install Wiring

Installing the electrical wiring, plumbing, and any low voltage wiring is the next stage. This will require you to obtain standard electrical wiring, electrical boxes, and PVC tubing for water and sewer lines if necessary. If you are installing any low voltage devices, you will also need low voltage wiring and low voltage rings. The wiring and tubing is not too expensive, so it should not set you back in your budget, depending on the size of your basement.

Step 3- Place Drywall

Placing the drywall is the third stage of the remodel. This involves acquiring drywall, drywall tape, mud, and drywall screws. There are differing types of drywall to choose from and some are more expensive than others. The other materials, the mud, tape, and screws, are fairly inexpensive but important items to purchase.

Step 5- Install Fixtures

Installing fixtures is one of the last steps of the remodel. The fixtures you can install include light switches, electrical outlets, and low voltage fixtures such as cat5 jacks, phone jacks, or coax jacks. All of these items are affordable and easily found at your home improvement store.
