What to Look for in Beginning Wine Making Kits
For people new to making their own wine, the beginner wine making kits are a great solution. These kits come with instructions, basic recipes, equipment and ingredients.
Beginner Kit Equipment
The beginner wine making kit equipment should include: a 2-gallon fermenting bucket with a resealable lid, a spigot for siphoning and filling the liquid into the containers, and an air lock which allows the release of carbon dioxide from the container and prevents the oxygen from entering it. It should also include a stopper for sealing the container holding the wine, a long handle spoon for stirring the contents in the bucket, a thermometer for checking the temperature of the liquid, a carboy or glass vessel used for fermenting the wine in bulk, a siphoning tube for transferring the wine from the bucket to the carboy, a hydrometer which indicates the amount of sugar in the wine, a corker and finally an instruction manual with directions detailing the wine making process and basic wine recipes.
Beginner Kit Ingredients
The kit ingredients should include: the grape concentrate, grape juice, sugar, yeast, sanitizing powder and a clarifying agent. There are some kits that also come with oak chips and elderberry. Beginning winemakers should start with the easiest process possible.
