What tools are needed for adjusting a furnace gas valve?

by DoItYourself Staff

When dealing with a furnace gas valve, it is recommended that you hire a professional to avoid gas leaks or any other accidents from occurring. However, if you do want to adjust your furnace gas valve yourself, you will need a screwdriver and most of the time this is the only tool that you will need. However, if this is the first time that you have adjusted the furnace gas valve, it may be worth carrying a wrench in order to remove the larger cap, as it may be screwed too tightly to remove by hand. Also using a cloth could be used to clean the area, because a dirty mechanism is an inefficient mechanism.
