What You Should Feel After a Reiki Healing

by DoItYourself Staff

Reiki healing is a natural form of hands-on medicine that involves no chemicals or drugs. Reiki is normally associated as being a kind of massage therapy which helps to center the body’s energies and create a sense of total calm within the subject receiving the treatment. The Japanese stress reduction technique is relatively new to the Western world but has been widely used in Japan for many years. When you have Reiki treatment you should experience a deep sense of calm.

The Principles of Reiki

Dr. Mikao Usui first developed the art of Reiki in 1922, and he discovered 5 underlying principles which helped to heal and center the body. The idea behind Reiki is to find “the secret art of inviting happiness.” He also proposed it as “the miraculous medicine of all diseases.” Usui’s theory was, by emptying the body and mind of all negative feelings, the spirit was freed to be more open to the positive energies that life has to offer. His ideas stretched to ideas like:

“Just for today, do not anger. Do not worry and be filled with gratitude. Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.”

“Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer. Pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth.”

What Is Reiki Healing?

During a Reiki healing session, the participant remains totally clothed. It is not like a massage where you undress and are treated to essential oils and pummeling of the skin and muscles. Reiki healers will place their hands gently on your shoulders, back, neck, legs and arms, as well as your head during the session. They do not move their hands, but place them over the area to create a flow of pure energy through your body and extract negative chi. You will be lying down and will feel very relaxed. Reiki is suitable for any person and can even be done with children and animals. It is non-invasive and not at all threatening.

Special Attention

The Reiki healer will pay special attention to any sore, wounded or aggravated areas of the body. He or she may tap them gently, massage them, concentrate on them and try to ‘send’ energy to them to help heal them. For illnesses such as tension, stress or depression, the Reiki healer will pass positive energy into the recipient's body and try to circulate it to send the negative energy out through the feet. The Reiki healer will focus on the meridians of the recipient's body and align the energies and chakras. The healter will use Reiki symbols to energize the mental being of the recipient and use their own Reiki power to create a sense of confidence and total well-being in the person being treated.

Afterwards

When your Reiki session is over you will feel light, relaxed, confident, peaceful and centered. It is a wholesome experience, and your overall general sense will be one of total calm. It may even feel light walking on air for some people. Individuals respond differently according to the types of treatment they receive, but generally there is always a feeling of relaxation and satisfaction at the end of a session.
