When should I use an epoxy primer?

by DoItYourself Staff

Epoxy primer is usually applied as the first coat over your wood kitchen cabinets when you are restoring them. It helps create a solid base for the paint to stick to in order get a better finish. Also, when your brand new kitchen is about to be painted, you should start off with a healthy coat and let it dry for a couple of hours before applying the second and top coat of paint. Make sure that epoxy primer is the very first thing that you apply since it acts as a sealer and helps protect your kitchen cabinets, especially when they are exposed to heat and water from the stove and sink.
