When to use Drop Lights
Drop lights are very attractive lighting fixtures which come in various shapes, models and sizes to suit anyone’s tastes. Here we shall discuss the most common scenarios where you can use drop lights.
In Combination with a Drop Ceiling
Drop lights are very commonly used in conjunction with a drop ceiling. A drop ceiling or false ceiling is like a secondary ceiling which is often quite elaborate and usually features coving, wood or other detailed borders or engravings. Drop lights create a very nice effect when installed from a drop ceiling. The most commonly used method is to install one rather large drop light right at the center of the ceiling so as to attract more attention towards it. In such a case the drop lights are usually quite elaborate and rather classical, as in the case of chandeliers.
In more modern styles more than one drop light is used, either at the corners of the room, or else at every one third area. This is also the case when the room is quite large as in the case of a hall. When a modern styled room or area is at stake the drop lights used are usually simple in design, and commonly feature just one bulb, hanging from a rather long cord. Such drop lights seldom include intricate designs and are usually white or metallic.
In Wide and Long Corridors
Drop lights are used a lot in wide and long corridors. They are fixed at regular intervals to light the way through the passage. The number of drop lights used obviously depends on the length of the corridor. In this case the size of the light fixture is slightly smaller so as not to look too bulky, considering that more than one will be installed.
In Bedrooms
Drop lights can be used in bedrooms since there are so many styles to choose from, that any type of bedroom can be accommodated, be it a classical main bedroom, a modern bedroom or a kids’ spare bedroom. Classical bedrooms usually include drop lights made from a number of lights hanging down from an elaborately designed body. More modern bedrooms use a drop light with simple vertical lights. These are usually either just one, or else a number of lights falling haphazardly at irregular lengths. Drop lights in kid's bedrooms usually feature one simple light combined in the shape or model of a particular character or brightly colored designs and stenciled bodies.
At an Entrance
Drop lights are also used at entrances in front of a house’s main door, in a covered entrance or portico, porch or doorway so as to light up the front stairs and initial area near the entrance.
As Wall Fixtures
Some models of drop lights are also available to be hung from a wall rather than from a ceiling. These types of drop lights usually feature 1 or more bulbs hanging out from the framing. These are very commonly used in corridors and in large rooms or areas, as in waiting rooms and restaurants for instance so as to effectively light up each area.
These are the main uses of drop lights, although you can be creative and use them in several other cases and scenarios since there is such a large variety to choose from on the market.
