Why does my dryer heating element go bad so quickly?

by DoItYourself Staff

One of the most common reasons you will need to replace a dryer heating element is film building up on the lint trap, which is caused by dryer sheets. This film is clear, so you might think the link trap is clean and neglect to clean it. Cleaning your lint trap with soap and water at least every 6 months could prevent the heating element from overheating and going bad. Financially, it will save you buying a new heating element and reduce your bills, as overheating will increase your electricity bill.
