Why is a stamped concrete patio better than flagstone?

by DoItYourself Staff

Depending on the location of the patio, you will find that a stamped concrete patio is better than a flagstone patio for a simple reason: maintenance is very easy. You really don't have to do much to it, other than hose it down, to have it ready for your summer season. However, if you live in the mid-latitudes or up north, you will find that the reverse is true: the flagstone patio is more durable than the stamped concrete. The reason here is simple: concrete, when subject to the norms of winter and spring and the thaw-freeze-thaw cycle of the mid-latitudes will break up sooner than the flagstone, although the flagstone can also break if hit incorrectly.
