Will winterizing a window air conditioner improve air conditioner performance?

by DoItYourself Staff

A window air conditioner is predominantly used in the summer months and barely used at all during the winter months as it is designed to keep a room cool by extracting the warm air outside. Over the cooler months, it is important to winterize the air conditioning unit. This will not improve performance unless the unit was badly maintained over the summer, but it will maintain the current level of performance and its lifespan. Meanwhile, if you do not winterize the window air conditioner, when you come to use it again next summer, it is likely to decrease in performance or break altogether due to possible water damage.
