Wiring for Remote Electrical Outlet Control
Wiring for your home can be simplified with remote electrical outlet control. Multiple devices within your home can be operated from a central system. You can switch on or off your lights or other electrical devices indoors and outdoors by using a remote, and you have the option of controlling a single device or a combination of devices.
This can all be accomplished without rerouting wires, running wires within walls or by using a smart home computer system controlling your entire house. This is accomplished by using wireless switches that work in tandem with a relay receiver in the remote electrical outlet that is wired to a light or electrical device.
System Elements
A system typically includes two elements: a controller which sends the signal and a receiver or switch that will receive the signal which turns the power on or off.
There are several types of receivers that can be used. Some switches operate similarly to conventional light switches. Other receiver types can either take the place of your wall outlets or others simply plug into existing wall outlets.
Installing the System
Installation of the switch and receivers is easy. The only tool you will need is a screwdriver as drilling or running wires is not required.
Remote electrical outlet receivers and switches can be screwed in and snapped together. Plug in receivers are simply plugged into an available outlet.
After installation of the system, you will still have the option to use an outlet or switch manually if necessary.
Programming the Controller
Once your switches or receivers are mounted, the next step is to program the wireless system controller. This programming enables the controller to act as a single master switch to operate all of the lights and electrical devices within your home as well as outdoors.
Controllers can offer several special options. Some options include operating several switches at once by pressing a single button, programming a combination of devices to work in tandem or program devices to work using a timer function.
Benefits of the Timer Function
With the timer function, you can preset your lights or other electrical devices to turn on or off automatically through a remote signal sent by the controller. If you arrive home at a set time each day, you can have the house lit and have any electrical devices turned on in preparation for your arrival.
The timer can also be used for security purposes to automatically turn on security lights outdoors at sunset. You can also make it appear that you are home by turning on select lights at random times while you are away on vacation.
Future Enhancements
Upcoming products that will be compatible with your wireless controller and remote electrical outlet receivers or switches will have features similar to a computerized smart home system but at a lower cost.
You will be able to create preset programs that allow your controller to open or close drapes and blinds, operate door locks, activate security systems or simply open the garage door.
